Hugo Schaer 2026

In memory of his friend, the musician Karlheinz Steeb, Hugo Schaer created a bronze stele on which he recounts stories from his friend’s life using his own sign language.

The bronze stele was officially unveiled on 31 May 2026 in the San Martino cemetery in Vasia.

The cemetery in Vasia is situated in the Italian province of Imperia in Liguria and surrounds the historic church of San Martino di Tours, which was founded in 1119 by Benedictine monks.
The historic site impressively combines sacred art, Ligurian cultural history and a spectacular scenic setting.
